Empowering Maritime Electrification: Highlights from the FLEXSHIP M24 General Assembly

The FLEXSHIP consortium convened remotely on December 3-4, 2024, for the M24 General Assembly, hosted by BRING. The two-day event brought together project partners to review milestones, address challenges, and align on next steps to ensure the technical and organizational success of FLEXSHIP. Key updates included the closure of Risk ID-52, enhanced internal and external review procedures, and progress on Digital Twin development for DEMO-1 and DEMO-2, which remains on track for January 2025. Technical advancements were highlighted, such as energy management system optimization through Model Predictive Control strategies and finalization of battery designs under WP3. Demonstrator preparations addressed space, cost, and integration challenges, with containerized battery systems explored for DEMO-1 (Gunnerus) and regulatory alignment underway for DEMO-2 (Atatürk). Dissemination efforts exceeded targets, with over 4,285 website views, nearly 800 LinkedIn followers, and plans for a stakeholder workshop on modular battery systems in January 2025. Risk management discussions tackled certification processes, charger availability, and system integration, with actionable mitigation strategies in place.

The consortium remains committed to its ambitious roadmap, with upcoming workshops, technical milestones, and collaborative actions driving progress toward a sustainable maritime future.

Stay tuned in 2025 for a FLEXSHIP whitepaper highlighting some of the key innovative marine concepts our project is bringing to the future market!
