Damen Shipyards is a family-owned international ship design, building, repairing, and conversion company based in the Netherlands. Damen is active in a large variety of ship types and sizes, building approximately 160 new vessels every year. Since 2012 battery powered vessels are part of the Damen portfolio and there are currently (2023) more than fifty battery powered ships in operation worldwide.
Damen Research Development & Innovation is the entity within the group responsible for leading research and innovation, serving as a central expertise centre. Within Flexship, Damen is leading the integration testing, aligned with our expertise as overall ship system integrator. Throughout the project Damen provides input on requirements from a shipbuilder’s perspective, helping to bring our experience and expertise to FLEXSHIP.
For Damen, FLEXSHIP represents an opportunity to increment knowledge in the integration of state-of-the-art power systems while at the same time push towards the next generation of battery systems.
