During task 3.3 the thermal management system inside each battery module is developed, whose main purpose is the cooling of the battery cells inside. Designing the thermal management system for optimal heat dissipation enables higher cooling performance which is crucial for targeting higher charging rates. ABEE leads this task by developing the detailed design of the thermal management system, mainly based on thermal simulations of the preliminary battery module design performed in task 3.1. Furthermore, ABEE will produce all components required for the cooling system and assemble them into the battery module, according to the final design outcoming from the close collaboration within the context of all WP3 tasks. WABTEC will share their experience in cooling systems, especially chiller units, with ABEE in order to support the development of the thermal management system. FHG will support ABEE by providing the interface definitions into the module housing that is developed during task 3.4. Only through close cooperative work, a hitchless integration of the thermal management system components into the battery module housing can be ensured.
